This year, as a grade level we were Juniors. Being eleventh graders and almost the eldest in the high school, we are expected to place second. This year, things have been a little bit different. Our grade started strong but failed to succeed in some of our weaknesses. This affected the scores placing us third, below the seniors and the sophomores. Though there are still more activities left to be completed, and we do not know the official placing yet, we already won.
No, we didn't win the ICC competition. We won the moments, and the memories together as JUNIORS 2016. As a grade level , through out the week we have been supportive of each other in different activities and we have learned that losing is something that happens and that accepting it in the calmest and humblest manner is the only way to go. We have learned not only to be supportive of one another but to acknowledge other grade levels and support them in their times of glory or weakness.
This is something new, to us since through out the previous years of this rigorous competition we dedicated our cheers to bringing the competition down .
Never would I have imagined my grade, never the less myself cheering for the freshmen, when they were being defeated by the sophomores. Or clapping for the other grades when they made exceptional skits in Theater Sports, or Just a Minute.
I believe that we have managed to understand the difference between winning and winning a moment. Coming together and enjoying one of our last years in this school, in this competition. Recognizing and being empathetic towards the freshmen in their first years and being able to recall when someone wins because of their well deserved effort. Accepting one another, and being able to have fun and not letting a competition create animosity between grade levels.
In the end, a few years from now, we won't recall the points only the memories that stick.
