Don’t you love the feelings when you finish something that was hard and rigorous and you get a positive outcome? The feeling of succeeding is like adrenaline in your veins and the satisfaction makes you feel proud of your efforts and result.
You feel good about yourself but most importantly you have a final product that reflects on the hard work you have put into it.
How terrible would it be that because of certain stereotypes and misjudgements your work isn't valued the same?
All that hard work, and resistance is thrown to the garbage because you are part of a sector that is considered to be lazy, useless, and most importantly EASY.
Horrible right?
Work that has been giving your most focused attention and hardest of efforts is being considered “trash” because of what people presume that people in your group are like.
You are probably wondering, who has the RIGHT to judge me in that way?
Every day, everywhere we are judged. People tend to have a tendency to reject what they consider to be different, or unusual. I am sad to be part of a society in which taking a risk and choosing an alternative to what is considered the “status quo” is immediately the target for critiques and misjudgements.
I am in Innovation Academy 2016. Each and every person who is part of our class CHOSE the program because we wanted to be able to learn and find the joy of it. We all have different passions, hobbies and career choices but what unites us is the passion we share for giving the best quality work to everything we do. We are as competitive and rigorous as ANY other program in my school.
But STILL we are targeted with negative comments every single day.
How frustrating is it to be working and someone come in and ask “ what are you doing?” and when you give an explanation you are answered by a comment like: Oh right in your innovation!, Either way you are in the IA why don’t you finish the ESS homework then?, I am sure that I will get into a university thanks to the IB what are you going to do?
It isn't only humiliating but absurd that someone who hasn't even been able to see what we have done, that DON'T take the time to read our blogs, check out our websites or pay attention to our tweets is able to get the satisfaction of thinking that they are right.
It’s preposterous to have such negativity spread like wildfire, and our work and characters given such a poor reputation.
As an IA, we have to surpass those types of comments and continue with our hard work.
Most importantly we have to stay as away as we can from these comments that are nothing but lies and rumours. Most importantly we have to prove everybody wrong by working twice as hard and better.
As a community we must stick together but most importantly we must continue loving what we learn, and loving to learn.
