It’s very rare that I actually read for leisure, but desperate times call for desperate needs so I opted to use some of my time reading.
I might have seemed like a little kid lost in the middle of a huge mall because suddenly a woman approached me and tried to help me. She asked me what was my favourite kind of book, and if I was looking for something more specific .I felt very ashamed but I knew that in order to find THE book I had to be sincere. So I told her:
1. I hate romantic books
2. I hate fairy tale endings
3. I hate series books that are ultimately turned into movies
4. I hate historical novels
5. I hate supernatural books
I KNOW, that a lot of hates. But I am glad that I opted for being straight forward. Though my helper, took a lot of time to process all of my dislikes she then asked me what I liked. I really didn’t have to say much for her to figure me out.
She made me walk half way through the store until she found what she considered would be the book of my dreams. The tittle of the book read “ The Devil Wears Prada”. Of course, who hasn’t heard of that movie? When I was younger I recalled this movies as the one that my older sister and mother wouldn’t let me watch and talked nonstop about. But as they all say books are always better than movies. I decided to give it a try.
Have you ever been in a book store and found these annoying people who can’t seem to wait to get home to read their newly purchased book, and they just kinda sit there in the middle of everything. I am NOT proud to admit, that I became one of THEM that particular evening.
I must say, I fell in love with the book.
The book focuses on the story of twenty three year old Andy Sachs which happens to be the antonym of fashionable working as the assistant for Miranda Priestly at Runway magazine.
Miranda in the book is the fantasy version of Anna Wintour.
* If you don’t know who Anna Wintour is don’t even bother to read the book.
Out of the millions of girls who would kill to work for Miranda, Andy gets the job just to save enough money so further in her life she can focus on her journalism career. Miranda is incredibly hard to work with, she is over demanding and a complete nightmare. Andy starts out hating her job, but as the plot unveils she ends up liking a world she never expected to like.
What I found incredibly refreshing from this specific novel is that it’s author Lauren Weisberger follows a storyline about a girl who doesn’t fall in love with her “ dream boy” instead she tells us about Andys day to day love hate relationship with her work.
Its bold, empowering, funny and most importantly : different.
I would truly recommend this novel to somebody who:
- Is a fan of the fashion world
- Reads Vogue
- Wants a different kind of book
- Is tired of love stories
Its an easy read that hooks you right in the beginning until the end. Take it from one of the most picky readers: READ IT.
